PORTLAND, Oregon (July 17, 2019) -- Outgoing senior Alex Slusher became one of the best scorers in Oregon prep boys lacrosse history this spring.
He scored more than 80 points and finished his career as one of three players in Oregon history to score more than 200 goals.
From Oregon Episcopal School, Slusher can now officially call himself the state’s MVP. The Oregon Sports Awards team selected Slusher as the 2019 Prep Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year in June and one week after the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association (OHSLA) tabbed him as the state’s Player of the Year.
He joined Sport Oregon and NBC Sports Northwest on “The Noe Show” with Brian Noe on Wednesday to receive his award. Click here to watch clips of Slusher’s interview and to view a behind-the-scenes look at his time in studio.
Sport Oregon and NBC Sports Northwest revealed Lake Oswego senior Katy Gilbert as the Prep Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year on Wednesday as well.
Future single-sport prep award announcements can also be picked up live on KJOR Rip City Radio 620.
Sport Oregon, which manages the Oregon Sports Awards, and NBC Sports Northwest have partnered to announce each of the 2019 award winners on television and radio segments from July 8-31.
Gilbert and Slusher will both continue their lacrosse careers at Ivy League schools. Gilbert is headed to New Hampshire to play for Dartmouth while Slusher will attend Princeton on a lacrosse scholarship.
A three-time U.S. All-American and OSLA first team selection, Slusher has had a busy summer. He’s competed in a number of lacrosse showcases and All-American games, including the Adrenaline All-American game on June 16 in Dallas. Slusher was also one of 50 players who advanced to the second round of tryouts for the U.S. Lacrosse men’s U19 team in June.
Slusher helped the Aardvarks claim the Columbia Conference regular season crown and finish with a 13-5 overall record. In 2018, Slusher scored 90 points – 58 goals and 32 assists – to lead OES to its first state championship victory since 2009.
